End in Sight

Senior Seances, Sex, Spirituality

by Menalcus Lankford

About the Book

The novel is set in a modern California retirement community, where for its aging members the end is truly in sight. This can be challenging but not necessarily scary. Residents often experience a freeing understanding of what has gone before in their lives and develop new and better ways of being. Some discover deeper relationships, including sexual ones, than they have ever known.

In this beautiful retirement valley part of the land had been dug up in the California Gold Rush of the 1800s, but nothing found. Yet a local leader seems to be onto new evidence, leading to a thrilling underground discovery in 2024. Thus the community offers for its senior residents a discovery of long buried gold in more ways than one.

In Praise of End in Sight

Lankford (author of Exit the Jingle Man) employs a light touch throughout this multi-perspective story. Despite death being a constant in the lives of the seniors—either through the loss of loved ones or as a looming eventuality—the novel is never dark or too somber, pressing forward instead with a gentle pace and plenty of reflections on life’s purpose, meaning, and presence in the hereafter.
